West Dean Church of England Primary School
is a small caring community, housed in a Victorian building set in beautiful grounds in the village of West Dean, nestled in the heart of the South Downs countryside.
Outstanding Education is provided for all our pupils through our focus on children as individuals, high standards and purposeful, exciting learning. Everyone in our school is loved and nurtured by our team of dedicated staff. We believe that, for children to thrive in school, working in partnership with families is key.

Apple Class visited Portchester Castle. They looked at the features of the castle in preparation for making their own castles.
Fun in the snow. Followed by hot chocolate and toast.
As part of Alive and Kicking week March 2018, the whole school visited the Cass Sculpture Park at Goodwood.
Father Christmas came to West Dean College. The children all received a present and sang carols to the staff at the College. December 2018
As part of the Beech Class Big Camp a climbing wall was erected in the school field for the children to climb and abseil down.
West Dean sent a team to the Goodwood Area Schools Sports Day held at Boxgrove School.
Apple Class have enjoyed using the school swimming pool and are becoming very confident in the water. June 2018.
Selected children from years 1 and 2 took part in a football tournament at Chichester College. Nov 2018
Children from Beech Class entertained the residents of Wellington Grange Care Home with their carol singing. Dec 2018
Father Christmas arrived at West Dean College in Dick Dastardly's car. The children sang carols and were given a present from Father Christmas.

Beech Class visited the Novium Museum to enhance their topic on Romans. They got to try on Roman helmets and see Roman artefacts. March 2019
Apple Class visited Goodwood Farm. They were allowed to touch the animals and they also made their own butter. March 2019
Our grand pool opening for the season following maintenance works.
The children are really looking forward to using the pool in the summer.
Plaques displayed with children's names who sponsored a coping stone through our 'Save our Pool' campaign.
Chestnut Class visited the Festival of Speed at Goodwood. They all had an amazing time. July 2019
To celebrate World Book Day children came to school dressed as their favourite book character. March 2019
Chestnut Class had their termly Community Café where the children were dressed as evacuees.
The whole school put on a production called H2eau. Here the reception children are singing while dressed as raindrops and clouds. July 2019
West Dean swimmers took part in a swimming gala at the Westgate Centre in Chichester.
Maple Class created 'A Carnival of Animals' as part of an art project that went on display at Chichester University.
A team from Chestnut Class took part in the SSP Boys Football Tournament at Chichester University. They had a great time, finishing 4th. Nov 19
Safety at West Dean School
Keeping children safe is a priority for us all. Any concerns of any kind should be reported, in confidence, to Mrs Moss, who is our Designated Safeguarding Lead.
In the absence of Mrs Moss, Mrs Prudence will support with any safeguarding concerns. Mrs Wendy Goacher leads our governors in monitoring our safeguarding work in school. Our governors and premises staff work hard to keep the school well-maintained and safe for us all.
Additional and Special Educational Needs at West Dean CE Primary School
Mrs Moss and Mrs Totman share the SENCo role in school and will help if you feel your children have learning needs which may need a little extra or different support.
